TPE materials are used for grips, seals, strain reliefs, feet, and soft-touch overmolded zones. The family includes different chemistries and hardness ranges, so a successful part depends on choosing the TPE together with the rigid substrate and end-use environment.

Texture, parting line, flash control, mechanical locking, and compression behavior should be reviewed early. A visually soft surface does not by itself confirm sealing performance or long-term adhesion.

Retention may come from compatible material adhesion, mechanical locks, undercuts, through-holes, or a combination. The interface should be designed and tested with the exact material pair.

Can TPE be used as a functional seal?

Potentially, but hardness, compression, geometry, recovery, fluid exposure, and aging must be validated. A soft feel alone does not establish sealing performance.

Can color and texture be matched on TPE?

Color and texture can be developed, but soft materials respond differently to mold texture and lighting. Approved physical samples are the most reliable acceptance reference.
